2012 Viognier
Saralee's Vineyard, Russian River
If the 2012 doesn't ring a bell, you have a good memory - it was never actually released save for a brief period.
Our original notes said "The 2012 is even leaner and brighter, and is undergoing additional bottle aging before release. Think essence of Myer lemon." Because we thought it was too bright (Viognier???) we held it.
The wine is showing beautifully, we drank the entire bottle when tasting through a series of old releases, paired with a roast chicken.
It bears little varietal resemblance to Viognier and that big perfumy nose. It in fact reminds me more of a balanced chardonnay from Burgundy both in aromatics and balance, texture.
This is a steal and the sale is temporary, this wine should be marked up, not down.
