Our Vineyards

We are honored to work with some of the unsung heroes of California wine; growers that still specialize in unique varieties.

Two Shepherds, like many other small wineries, essentially 'lease' parts of vineyards. Often under long term contract, rows or blocks of the vineyard are farmed to our specification for leaf pulling, fruit removal, irrigation, and more. Were it not for this unique arrangement, almost unheard of in Europe, Two Shepherds could never bring you these special wines.  We are pleased to work with these growers for many years and lease specific rows so we can learn and appreciate the nuances of each harvest. Wherever possible, we source from organic vineyards.

Below are highlights of some of the vineyards Two Shepherds partners with:

Bechtold Vineyard, Lodi

The world’s oldest surviving Cinsault vineyard, 130 years old, sustainably & dry farmed, head trained on native rootstock. Esther Mobley's article on this vineyard offers a fascinating historical persective.

Catie’s Corner, Russian River Valley

The only planting of Grenache Blanc in RRV, budded over on old Merlot vines by famed grower Saralee Kunde. Saralee was instrumental in our founding and eventhough we were pipsqueaks, treated us with unwavering attention.  In fact, she budded over this vineyard based on William's passion for Grenache Blanc. That's the kind of lady she was. We miss her and proudly put her name in tribute on this wine, named after her daugher.

Fanucchi Vineyard, Russian River Valley

Located just down the road from our farm and vineyard, we are honored to work with our neighbor Peter Fanucchi. These Trousseau Gris grapes are the only planting in CA, from his 40 year old vineyard orignially planted by his father. 2019 marks the 7th consecutive year we've harvested this fruit, and we look forward to many more. It's a daily pleasure driving down our road and seeing the vineyard in its different stages.

Trimble Vineyard, Mendocino

A dry-farmed, certified organic vineyard of head-trained Carginan. Starting in 2018, we split this vineyard with Porter Creek. As a small winery, establishing long term parterships is essential.

Windmill Vineyards, Yolo

Windmill Vineyard is a new strategic partner for us for four varietals, in the Dunnigan Hills AVA. We're grateful to Steve Matthiasson for the introduction to Sergio's vineyard. Steve was the original consultant, and still sources a variety of grapes here.

Besides widely planted to many Rhone and Bordeaux varieties, it’s rolling hills and gravelly alluvial soils has a wonderful polyculture also growing and farming organically an array of fruit trees.

Two Shepherds Vineyard

In 2018, we harvested from our own Grenache vineyard. In 2019, we grafted an additional 1,000 Grenache and Grenache Gris vines. Our vineyard is organic and hand farmed by us. Our cat Wiley ensures that there are no gophers in our vineyard, and Dolce our donkey is responsible for turning the soil in the wintertime.
